What Is TUBACHRISTMAS?
TUBACHRISTMAS performances feature traditional Christmas music specially arranged for the first TUBACHRISTMAS, December 22nd, 1974, in NYC’s Rockefeller Center Ice Rink by American composer Alec Wilder. Every Christmas season tuba and euphonium players of all ages gather to pay respect to their low brass heritage. The warm, rich, organ-like sound of the mass Tuba-Euphonium choir featured in TUBACHRISTMAS performances is now an established Christmas tradition in cities throughout the world.
In 2021, on a cold and rainy December day in Drake Park, 12 enthusiastic Tuba/Euphonium players performed the first TUBACHRISTMAS in Bend, Oregon. This year we hope to grow the Bend TUBACHRISTMAS tradition with an open invitation to all tuba, euphonium, and baritone horn players in Central Oregon to participate.
We invite community members to enjoy the TUBACHRISTMAS performance in the (climate controlled) Coats Campus Center at Central Oregon Commuity College in Bend at 1 pm on Saturday, December 10.
